STANDARD 2.
BUILDING FAMILY AND COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs understand that successful early childhood education depends upon partnerships with children’s families and communities. They a) know about, understand, and value the importance and complex characteristics of children’s families and communities. They use this understanding to b) create respectful, reciprocal relationships that support and empower families, and c) to involve all families in their children’s development and learning.
My assignment I chose for building family and community relationships for the NAEYC Standard number 2 is the Family Plan assignment from Edu-146 Child Guidance. The purpose of this assignment was to create a Family Plan explaining to the parents the importance and complex characteristics of children’s families and communities, because young children's lives are so embedded in their families and communities, and because a successful early childhood program depends upon partnerships with families and communities, early childhood professionals need thorough understanding and application of knowledge in this area.
