Learning was hard for me in school. Growing up I didn't have the guidance
I needed. This resulted in me repeating second grade because I could not read. This is part of my reason in
becoming a professional who wants to serve children and families. When I started out, I began pursuing a career
in nursing. I have always loved taking care of children and being helpful
to others. So, I thought what better way to take care of children and
others than through nursing. That
time, I did not know I really wanted to take care of children. One day, I went to my son’s classroom to help the
teacher get the children’s things ready for our trip to the zoo. I
realized standing in my son’s classroom; this is what I wanted to do, become a
teacher! I immediately changed my career to an Associate’s degree in
Early Childhood Education. The reasons I choose this path is because I feel a
child’s education is very important and I want to be a part of that process.
It is the path to their success in life. I want to start a
kindergarten readiness program to help children by getting them ready for
school. I feel they will have more confidence when they are able to
understand what they are reading. A goal of mine is to use the Montessori
Method and have an inclusive classroom in a facility with my daughter. I love being
involved with inclusion classrooms where there is a variety of children both
typical and atypical. I am determined to be a successful literacy teacher
one day. I enjoy hearing a child get the word they have been trying to
sound out. The look of satisfaction on their faces is a blessing to me.
I want the pleasure of helping children. I want to be the
teacher who is strong when the child needs a leader. I want to be the
compassionate teacher when the child needs warmth and love; and being the
protective teacher when a child needs a guardian to help them feel safe.
Most of all be the teacher with the warm sensitive touch of a mother, when a
child needs a hug to give them comfort and the feeling of trust.
