STANDARD 1. PROMOTING CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs are grounded in a child development knowledge base. They use their understanding of a) young children’s characteristics and needs, and b) multiple interacting influences on children’s development and learning, to c) create environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for each child.
The assignment I chose to represent the NAEYC Standard 1:
Promoting Child Development and Learning is my Classroom Center Design from Edu 221: Children with Exceptionalities. The reason I chose the Classroom Center Design is because it is an example of how a developmentally appropriate environment can be created focusing on young children’s characteristics and needs. It is an inclusion center that has been modified to fit children who are typical as well as atypical learning abilities. The environment was based on environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for every child. In the future in my facility I will apply these methods to accommodate all children.
